Practical ways to compare warm and cool shades

I volunteer with a local theater group, and our next production needs a wig that works with a fairly simple costume. We already have a dark coat and a light scarf, which leaves the wig as the most noticeable remaining color choice. I would like to compare a warm brown, a cooler brown, and a muted red before spending any of our limited budget. My search for a clearer vocabulary for warm and cool shades led me to a discussion reference about color analysis as a starting point for further reading. I would treat that as a starting point for questions, since a stage character does not have to follow everyday style advice. The practical problem is that our rehearsal room and the stage use different lights, making a quick mirror comparison feel incomplete. Would you compare the samples beside the actual costume under the planned lights, or start with a simpler daylight check first? Please share a workable way to compare these options together, so the decision does not depend entirely on one volunteer’s first impression.
