Just my two cents, I've been tracking current events so there's certainly plenty happening at the moment. Between the tech world to economic changes, it looks like something new comes out almost every day. Personally, one of the most interesting things is how quickly new technologies (see Wiki for context) is transforming the way people communicate. Meanwhile, economic and geopolitical news seem to cause a noticeable impact on everyday life. Another thing that caught my attention is how completely differently different communities react the same news. A lot of people consider it something exciting, but others seem more skeptical about the possible consequences.
