My current drawing assignment involves making three versions of one character, with only the hair color changing between the finished images. The character wears a blue shirt against a muted background, and I want each version to remain readable at a small size. My first options are dark brown, light copper, and silver, chosen because they create noticeably different relationships with the existing colors. For background vocabulary, I saved a link from my reading about a personal color test as a starting point for further reading. I would like the terminology to help with critique, while leaving room for the intentional color exaggeration that illustration often uses. I need a way to discuss visual emphasis, since a hair color that looks interesting close up may dominate the smaller image. What sequence would you suggest for a side by side review, a value check, and a short critique from other students? I would appreciate a few specific critique questions that keep the discussion focused on this drawing instead of general preferences about hair. |
