I spent Saturday comparing the dark garments hanging in my closet. Initially I felt that I must belong in a Deep Winter palette. However, charcoal often looks polished while very black tops sometimes make my face look tired. I photographed several fabrics in navy, espresso, gray, and muted plum. The daylight check made me less certain that one label tells the whole story. When I wanted a second way to compare, I used this color analysis so I could examine contrast and undertone separately. For everyday choices I may favor a softer dark range, then keeping only the strongest colors that still feel natural. I would be interested if others have used daylight comparisons to separate two nearby seasonal palettes? I am deliberately leaving bright lipstick, dramatic jewelry, and online quizzes out of this first comparison. Those may be useful later, but right now I only need a repeatable view of familiar clothing in ordinary daylight. A few careful notes feel more useful than a dramatic makeover or a rushed decision about every future purchase. |
